In February 2025, our company Miland  finalized a cooperation agreement with our client, Mr. Balbuena, to develop a 550㎡ Duma Fort Indoor Soft Play in England. The brief was clear from day one. The park must serve children under 12. It also needed a strong visual “wow” factor and recognizable colors. In addition, it had to offer rich play experiences. Most importantly, it had to deliver safety that parents trust and operators can maintain.

Local conditions also shaped the plan. The UK has many rainy days. So the venue had to stay attractive year-round. It also had to perform well under higher humidity and wet-season peaks.

Design Direction for the 550㎡ Indoor Soft Play: Fort Theme and Color Zoning

To help the venue stand out in a competitive family entertainment market, we proposed a bold fort-themed environment. The theme supports imaginative role play. It also creates strong “landmark” structures. These include towers, gates, and layered routes. They are easy to remember and market.

Visually, the design uses high-contrast color blocking and distinctive façade shapes. This creates clear photo points and instant brand recognition. Color also supports zoning and wayfinding. Calmer, more accessible areas serve younger children. Higher-energy routes attract older kids. This helps parents supervise and reduces congestion at key nodes.

Play Value within the park: Layered Routes and Repeat Reasons

A 550㎡ footprint demands balance between “fullness” and comfort. We planned Duma Fort with layered play paths and multi-entry zones. This spreads traffic and reduces bottlenecks.

The play mix focuses on repeatable, skill-building activities. Children can climb, crawl, slide, play with balls, and take on interactive obstacles. This gives them repeat reasons to return. They can also discover new routes each visit.

We kept strong sightlines where possible. This supports easier supervision while keeping the layout immersive. The result feels energetic and content-rich. It also stays orderly and efficient to run.

Key Challenges in a UK Indoor Soft Play Park and How We Addressed Them

The real challenge wasn’t only meeting safety standards. We also needed safety to feel obvious at first glance. Soft play frames take constant impact, vibration, and climbing loads. Weak joints become long-term maintenance risks.

We strengthened high-stress connection points with fish-scale welding. This creates consistent weld lines and cleaner seams. It also makes inspections easier during routine checks. For main structural connections, we upgraded to heavy-duty steel pipe fasteners. This improves rigidity and reduces loosening over time. The structure stays stable after months of high-frequency use. Parents also feel more confident when they see a solid build.

Rainy weather drives higher indoor traffic, but it also brings wet shoes, condensation, and more frequent cleaning cycles—so the space couldn’t be allowed to feel damp or smell stale. To address this, moisture-resistant materials were specified for high-contact areas, including PU leather padding and durable surface finishes. These elements were detailed to be wipe-friendly and wear-resistant, helping staff clean faster during peak hours while reducing moisture-related deterioration over time.

The site had a fixed 550㎡ footprint and limited staging space. So we planned modular packing and phased installation. This let the team bring materials in step by step. They could assemble and test efficiently. It also reduced disruption to other trades and helped keep the opening schedule on track.

Duma Fort now positions itself as an all-weather, high-appeal indoor playground with a distinctive visual identity and an engineering-led safety foundation. By combining fort theming, functional color zoning, a moisture-aware material strategy, and robust manufacturing methods, the project builds stronger customer confidence while keeping daily operations smooth. These decisions also support long-term performance in the UK market. After delivery, Mr. Balbuena expressed interest in working with us again.
